That’s right, folks.
I’ve decided that I need to flesh out my religious education, and read one of the most popular and controversial religious texts available.
And I realize that Arab-speaking Muslims have a built-in escape clause for any criticism I may levy on their holy book: apparently it loses its mojo when translated.
That little hurdle notwithstanding, here’s the plan:
The Qur’an has 114 suras of various lengths. I’ll read all of them, but I’ll only report summaries of what I’ve read, in blocks of 10 to 15 suras, depending on length. The goal, then, is to have a series of about ten posts that provide a synopsis of the Qur’an along with occasional commentary of my own experience reading it.
This series of posts, when completed, will be added to my Essays menu for easy reference.
Wish me luck!
P.S. I’ll be using this online translation.
