Apparently a dead priest resurrected a stillborn baby in Illinois. That, at least, is the claim of the Engstrom’s, whose son’s heart allegedly started beating for the first time a full hour after his birth, all because the Engstroms prayed to the late Pastor Fulton Sheen after seeing an old recording of him on YouTube.
I kid you not.
When the boy’s mother became pregnant, she started to pray that Sheen would watch over her. Then, immediately after the birth, the midwife started praying to Sheen to intervene on the child’s behalf.
Luckily the midwife also knew CPR, but I’m sure that had nothing to do with it.
So many questions spring to mind after reading this. Why would God need to have a priest petition him to help an infant who is in obvious need of help. Was he distracted? Too busy saving the victims of the famine in Somalia, perhaps?
Oh wait, he’s not doing that.
And now the church is holding an inquiry into the alleged healing. How they expect to determine if Sheen was actually involved or not, is beyond me. Séance, perhaps?
And of course we can expect the usual God-of-the-gaps argument to be at work: a lack of good scientific data regarding the incident will be construed as the intervention of the Christian deity.
The mind boggles sometimes.
