It’s always nice to hear about the positive effects that religious institutions can have on their communities. It is easy, especially for those such as myself who eschew religious belief, to focus on the negative.
So, here is a positive story from a church in Mississippi. The Rev. Michael O. Minor is fighting obesity from the pulpit, making good ethical use of his church’s social influence. This is not, of course, a specifically religious matter, and the fact that Minor is a preacher speaking from the pulpit is not, in the end, of great importance. The main thing is that he has an attentive audience who looks up to him, so he is in a position to make a difference. Well done, Reverend!
