Discrimination against Muslims in the workplace

A New York Times article describes an increasing number of reports of workplace discrimination against Muslims in the U.S. They are being called names (“terrorist”, “camel jockey”, “Osama”, etc.) and are being turned down for positions because of their dress.

I am vocal about my dislike for certain aspects of Islam (and other religions), and I’m willing to engage in debate with anyone who disagrees with me. But I think it is ugly and petty to call one’s coworker names, or to discriminate against them based on their appearance. This makes me ashamed of my fellow Americans. We’re better than that.
